Service Description

Reflexology…so much more than a foot massage. Reflexology was my first step into the world of holistic therapy, with a passion for all things related to health and wellbeing I took one look at a reflexology foot map and it had me fascinated and hooked so I went on a mission to learn more, eventually leaving my job and retraining to start a whole new career as a holistic therapist. Reflexology is an ancient therapy it is believed to have been first recorded as a pictograph on the Egyptian tomb of Ankhamor in 2330 BC along with other medical procedures. As well as being recorded in ancient Chinese medical texts and some North American Indian records. The technique is derived from Zone Therapy. Zone therapy divides the body into vertical lines of energy (meridians); each line of energy or zone corresponds to or mirrors parts of the body. It was discovered that when pressure was applied to certain zones; pain could be relieved, and an element of health and balance could be restored. Eunice Ingham is known as the pioneer of modern reflexology; she painstakingly studied the practice of zone therapy and was able to fine-tune the theory and method to create the detailed hand and foot maps we use today. Reflexology can be applied to the feet, hands, and ears and is less commonly practiced on the face. At the Chakra Room in Ramsbottom Bury, we are trained and qualified to offer all types of Reflexology. After offering foot reflexology for over two decades, we attended The London School of Reflexology in 2017 to further our training in facial reflexology and are delighted that both foot and facial reflexology have become equally popular with our clients. In foot Reflexology, the Reflexologist will apply a small amount of oil or balm to the feet, firstly warming up the muscles and tissues in the feet and then then we use specific techniques, applying fairly firm pressure in all areas corresponding to the parts of the body on both feet. In facial Reflexology, a beautiful facial oil is applied, and the pressure is a much more gentle pulse like affect, incorporating the scalp and neck areas, which relieves tension in the face, neck, and shoulders too. The Reflexology treatment itself has a deeply soothing and calming effect on the body and brings with it a deep sense of relaxation, enabling the body to activate its own natural healing response as well as the direct mirror effect of the reflexes within the area being worked on.
